Our "Old Raahe" Advent Calendar window video "Jouluruno" has been released: 1.12.2022, 8:00. Visit Brahenkatu 2 in Old Raahe to see the window and watch our video to get the real atmosphere.
This is the tale behind the song as told by our Choir leader Pauli Ylitalo:
Some years ago, I had an envelope left in my mailbox with two books of poetry inside. The sender, Aune Juola from Piehinki, said in her message that the poems were written by her brother Otto Pulkkinen, who lives in southern Finland. Aune hoped that I would compose a song from one of the poems. She wanted to cheer up her seriously ill brother with the song. It was easy to fulfil such a request. I composed the song; "Christmas poem", which beautifully describes the arrival of the festive atmosphere of Christmas in the city and in the minds of its inhabitants.
This year, when recalling the civil war of 100 years ago and its aftermath, the choir has several appearances during Vappu, the first of which is on the eve of the anniversary. At that time, the Raahe prison camp was housed in the Raahe Porvari and Kauppakoulu.
Saturday 27.1.2018, was exactly one hundred years after the beginning of the Finnish Civil War, on this day we enjoyed the mixed choir of Ajan Laulu who performed very well composed and interesting songs from that period. A multimedia presentation brought a more visual look to the concert.
