Successful Concert trip to Loviisa and Helsinki

The choir has returned happily from a round trip to Southern Finland. The first call was a joint Coffee Concert in Loviisa with AV-choir, lead by Mia Aitokari. We now have a new Swedish language choir partner. The concert culminated with a beautiful joint rendition of Finlandia to honour the Finland -100 celebrations. We warmly thank the concert organiser and our ex choir member, Rea Skog.

The trip continued to Helsinki where we performed at Ostrabotnia for the Old Raahe Guild's 80 years celebrations.

Over 100 current and previous residents of Raahe attended the celebrations. The new Mayor of Raahe, Ari Nurkkala, brought the council's greetings to the celebrations.  Additionally greetings were brought from Raahe-Guild by Pirkko Utriainen and the Homeland Union honorary chairman Pekka Laaksonen. The formal presentation was ” Raahe's shipping and shipbuilding in the 19th century ” given by professor Jari Ojala. Our choir was invited to perform and after the evening dinner we presented Pauli Ylitalo's own writings ”Rallakkatarinoita”. The programme included many pictures and events from the past 100+ years accompanied with rhymes and songs. The audience experienced for example our "Fire" song, This was followed by Wedding songs, a sea song and Ostrobotnia.

Previous Raahe youth choir members joined us to sing "Saturday Night" and "The Tar Song"

The evening Finale was a wonderful joint rendition of "Raahe-Marssi" along with our audience.

We would like to thank the Old Raahe Guild, chairman Pekka Salmi and celebration presenter Reijo Norio for their hospitality and inviting us to the event.
